Amsterdam De Koppeling Phase 2

Task: extension of the existing facilities with six groups and improvement of the character of the site fence. The design assumes unity between the existing building, the new fence and the extension. Related to the programme through differences rather than similarities. The fence has been architectonically pushed through as a plinth in the new building. The existing building will be enclosed as a result of consistent materialisation in natural wood and vegetation. The extension has an articulated form of three large villas, each one housing two groups. The new building’s white main volume links into the original building through accents in primary colours. There were high ambitions where sustainability was concerned, which have been realised in a unique manner.
