Amsterdam-N ijplein

This complex of 200 houses in 11 urban villas in the subsidised rented sector is part of the urban development square by OMA.

The houses are located on the north side of the river IJ in Amsterdam. This unique location with views across the water of the old part of town, was the reason for situating the living rooms or balconies in such a way that all houses could benefit from it.

The blocks are built in a split-level system, with a highly effective central stairwell to access two houses per landing. With rendering in various light colours the buildings were made to look abstract.
